This channel first came about several years ago (Dec 24, 2007) as an experiment and exercises to develop my skills on the guitar and in composing music for lyrics. So I set out to take the lyrics of any song (randomly selected) and give the words new chords, rhythms, and arrangements as far removed as possible from the way I may have them ingrained in my memory through the years of listening to them in their originally released versions. So I randomly picked songs and only referred to their lyrics, forcing myself to create new music to any song whatsoever, even if I had no idea how the music went originally, but even if I did know how it went, I would imagine that I had never known how the song melody went, as if I had come from another planet and came across the words for the first time, or as if I had been assigned by the lyricist to be the music writer and as if I had been told to come up with the music for it. And such compositions I coined the term "Alternative Melody" or AM, so that is why some songs are numbered AM ## to keep track of the songs where I attempted new melodies for.
On the other hand I also wanted to do covers of songs just to learn how the songwriters and composers of the song's music wanted them to be done. So for covers, I often used the music sheet or the lyrics with chords written above them if I felt confident and familiar enough with the melody and structure of the song.
I also used this channel for other activities, such as audio teachings on Buddhism, or family events. I also took old audio only recordings and added video to them. In this year, I uploaded video recordings of satsangs (spiritual discourses) of Mahatma Ji teaching about Spiritual Knowledge and Manav Dharam. I more recently stopped uploading those satsangs here, and now they are uploaded to SpiritualPilgrimage channel instead.
I also created a channel called BobDylanSongsForFun where you can find me covering Bob Dylan songs.
I lost my Aiptek HD Camcorder (maybe its buried in my room somewhere, or maybe it walked away from me), so instead, I have been using my Droid X phone or my webcam or whatever else, lately. I wish to get back to recording "studio quality" audio video recordings of song performances working with what I have available with me and taking into account the limitations of my tools. My netbook is extremely slow and so is my Internet, except at work, but then at work, I shouldn't be uploading stuff during work hours.
