The jaguar is a tropical cat of South America. Its bone crunching jaws are the strongest of all the large cats; second strongest of all mammals.
An adult male is 4 to 7 feet long, excluding the long tail. They have rosettes that closely resemble that of the leopard, although melanistic(black)jaguars have been seen.
They have no breeding season, but seem to mate more often when food is plentiful.
They are not afraid of humans but are shy and only attack when provoked.Deforestation has caused the jaguar to prey on cattle, sheep, goats, chickens, and other livestock. The jaguar's vocalization is like that of the other big cats--a low, coughlike grunt.
