Бытует мнение, что счастье - это дар,
А мудрость - боль ошибок гонорар.
Когда б мы точно знали, где найдем,
И точно знали бы, где это потеряем,
Не стали бы из искры... мы раздувать пожар!
Я часто в вечерних молитвах просил:
Отец мироздания молью...
Я часто жалею о чем говорю
И редко о том ,что молчу!
Друзей льстивых речи, хвалебные оды,
Как правило нас развращают,
Угроза врага и плохая погода -
Нас лечат, трезвят, исправляют.
Кто счастье не ценит,
Тот близок к несчастью,
Кто время не ценит - к забвению,
Нам вторил пророк:
"Не забудьте урок -
Кому все обязаны своим появлением".
Я вижу во сне белоснежные блики,
Как рой паутины окутав меня,
Пытают, как-будто бы ищут признания,
Забыв, что давно приручили меня.
Я крик алигории слышу так четко,
Как слоган молитвы заучен,
Кто агнецем станет на заклании божьем,
А кто самодержцем могучим...
Когда б мы культурой своей дорожили,
Не дав приземлиться пороку,
На головы наши на площадки раздумий,
Не дай прозвучать злому року...
Великая победа, что знает человечество,
Победа не над смертью, и верь, не над судьбой,
Вам засчитал очко судья, что судит суд небесный,
Только одну победу - победу над собой

A tribute to Paulette Goddard, the supposed wife of Charlie Chaplin and is best remembered today for her role as the tough and sassy Miriam Aarons in "The Women" (1939).
Also, she was the leading contender for the role of Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone with the Wind" (1939). Her inability to produce a marriage certificate to prove she and Charles Chaplin were married, and the appearance of Vivien Leigh on the scene, lost her the part.
