I am a Yarnaholic. My addiction started during childhood when I was introduced to fiber by my Mother. As a teenager I became interested in other things horses, boys etc. I was able to distance myself for these short years from the yarns. I found myself with a family and my fiber history allowed me to create small items that we couldn't afford. There were a multitude of mittens knitted in those years. Then the great enabler...a Knitting Machine arrived in my life. Now I could not only knit mittens but I could knit them in nothing flat. My small pitiful stash of red heart and unknown scrap balls from my mother were no longer enough. I discovered there were other fibers... wools, cotton, acrylic blends, mohair, cashmere and lord save us angora! Socks oh lord the socks. My feet are rarely subjected to socks made for size 9 thru 11. My feet are now encased lovingly in perfectly fitting glories of my own creation. I visit fiber shops others who enable my addiction. I will even shop on-line with friends during chats ogling yarns as if we can touch and feel them. I haven't abandoned acrylics, I still buy by the pound,there is so much more. I discovered that one could acquire raw ingredients and make ones own. Now I yearn for small furry animals. I need to know how to GROW my own, so I will feel safe in my addiction for all the rest of my days. My Husband Bob supports my addiction. Pulling me gently from needles hooks and machines when my eyes roll back and I drop exhausted onto them. Our 5 children are willing accomplices, ensuring a continued stream of fiber purchases. There are 10 Grand Victims at this point and I rest or not more like assured there will be more eventually.
