We often look to the sky for a shooting star without even realizing there is one among us here on earth. A rare phenomenon, like a supernova, named Malone. Malone, born Randy Malone and better known as "the one and only", is an extraordinary R&B singer who has the ability to hold ones soul in the palm of his hand with the belt of one note. This 24 year-old crooner has been captivating souls since he was a kid participating in the Annual Black History Talent Show in his hometown of Kankakee, IL. He won one talent show which led him to opening for several artists such as Yolanda Adams, The Clipse, and Naughty By Nature to name a few. In 1999, Randy signed with Indie label, M-Dubb Records out of Kankakee and began to work on his 1st LP entitled, "The 1 and only...Randy" produced by his Grammy-Award winning cousin VuDu who produced "Getting Some" for female rapper Shawnna and "Georgia" for rapper Ludacris. Over the next several years Malone continued with his music endeavors, releasing an R&B mixtape titled "The R&B Takeover" in 2001, which received airplay on Chicago's Power 92 and WGCI.
His small town hopes and Midwest achievements lead to big city dreams. He journeyed east to New York where Epic Records offered him a record deal. Unfortunately, the deal fell through due to issues with M-Dubb Records. Shortly after, Randy left M-Dubb and took a break from his dream of becoming a star, settling on being a bartender and manager. A job Malone described as "a blessing and a curse" in the end. He lost a friend one night in a shooting at one of his venues and nearly lost his own, as well as lost his job as a bartender. However, the next day Grammy-nominated R&B singer Syleena Johnson contacted him to record a demo with her for an India.Arie artist after watching him perform at the "Simply Real Music Series", a Chicago talent showcase hosted by Marcus Chavers, president of MJC Entertainment. After recording the demo she saw Malone's star potential and offered to help him in any way she could.
This is precisely when the earth shifted for Malone. He successfully transitioned into hosting "Spot Lite Karaoke" 6 nights a week. He had even made it to the top 80 of American Idol's season 5 back in 2005. Paula Abdul told him his tone is "so unique and incredible" and Simon Cowell told him he had what it took to "make it" in American Idol, but it hadn't reignited his dream of singing the way Syleena Johnson had. "Malone reminds me of myself in man form," says Syleena Johnson. His unique quality and sound stains your heart, and his ability to connect with his audience is undeniable. It would be a downright tragedy if the world was unable to be exposed to his talent."
Malone undoubtedly made a huge impression on Syleena Johnson. While in New York negotiating business for herself with Pulse Music, she simultaneously opened the door for Malone to strike up a record deal with the multi-tiered company. He is in the beginning stages of writing and recording his first official album which is yet to be titled. But Malone assures fans it will be a magical movement with good music, great vocals, great production, and awesome stories. "I am super excited for the chance to be able to release an album," says Malone.
In the meantime, Malone is released on EP entitled "The Wait Is Over" which will give his fans a prequel of the mesmerizing melodic sound that will be on his album. "All You Gotta Do", a song showing the ladies there are still good guys in the world willing to treat a woman right, is the first official release from "The Wait Is Over". "You probably lookin' for a thug boy but I'm just a real good dude," sings Malone. The stars are beginning to align perfectly for Malone. He has a sure to please voice that is out of this world. With God's timing, Malone is ready to sing his way into the souls he has yet to touch.
