Hard to knock any combo of a pump shotgun (tactical or not) and a pistol with higher capacity cllps. For all the fervor around tactical this and that, the pump shotgun delivers a ton of pop for the buck and can truly be in everyone's arsenal for a reasonable price.

You make some great points about getting counsel, training, instruction etc., before and after buying a gun. If you don't have these key ingredients, you aren't going to maximize the benefits of gun ownership in self defense situation.
