Poor Jenny. That was so weird because it doesn't look like she landed badly at all but clearly she was in so much pain. She's tough, too. She looked like she was ready to skate despite the pain but John Nicks had to practically drag her off the ice.

@MTVMANN Ah, thanks for pointing that out. That makes sense, since Tasha was still competing then. I had my time frame all screwed up. Still, someone in that box should have noticed and said something.

Score 14.900
Anna Dementyeva 2011 World Balance Beam Team Final

@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Which would knock even the best gymnast off their game. She's great, though. I can't wait to see her in the Olympics.

Anna Dementyeva 2011 World Balance Beam Team Final
Tokyo : 2011 Gymnastics World Championships
@ShawnVikaKomova2012 Yes, the NBC commentators have a way of jumping on every mistake non-US gymnasts make, but they had a point. Her style is very deliberate but she was very tentative and it distracts from all the difficult moves she's doing. I watched her performance from the 2011 Euros and th...

@ravel111 I've watched gymnastics for more than 20 years. Indeed, the lay of the land used to be that falling takes you out of contention for medals. This scoring system gives credit for trying something hard even if you miss, which isn't right. The vault wasn't all bad but it was bad enough. Mis...

Vanessa Atler - 1998 US Nationals Finals - Uneven Bars
Vanessa Atler on bars at the 1998 US Gymnastics Championships in finals.
@russianskatingfan True, but scores are always a bit inflated at Nationals. All things considered, the judges probably wanted to give her some encouragement for finally putting it together.

Look out Zhenya. Dasha is coming for you. Personally, I find myself enjoying watching Daria more. Her style is more frenetic, but in a good way. But there is no question that Evgenia is more precise and her technique is impeccable. But with these results, I think the judges are establishing that ...

@GymnasticsFan1144 You're right, but I think he was referring more to the two gymnasts' approaches in their routines. Aly is much more aggressive in her work whereas Anna is much more tentative. Elvis Stojko 1998 Olympics SP
Probably the best performance Stojko ever gave in the Short Program.
That was one of his best performances and what a great short program competition from the top guys. I think you could make a decent argument for either Kulik, Stojko or Eldredge topping the leader board after this. I just wish the long program had been this competitive.

1998 Olympics Ladies Sp Chen Lu
1998 Olympics Ladies Sp Chen Lu in Nagano. A beautiful return to something like her best.
@1andonlyCobra You're right. There was definitely a deduction for the combination and for some of the spins. But a 4.9 and a 5.3? No justifying that. Mid 5's was accurate for the required elements. But I think the choreography of the program and the presentation was second only to Kwan that night...

The Argentine's played really well, but man, the Spaniards were all over the place on this one. Ballboys Y U No Listen?
Poor ballboys. Eva Asderaki's expression is priceless though.
No wonder she's such a mental mess. She can't serve unless all the balls are on a specific side? If I'm the umpire, I'm telling her, "Get over yourself and serve, damn it," then I'd give her a code violation if she gives me any lip or keeps screwing around. Sheesh.

Roger federer hits his most insane passing shot on the run against Djokovic in the semis of the french open 2011.
