1EYE are back with their exciting new Rocksteady sound. Taking influence from the likes of John Holt, Ken Boothe and The Heptones, their eagerly awaited second album is guaranteed to rock the dance-floor! 1EYE are recording at their Birmingham studio with final production completed by Soljie Hamilton (Channel One) in Kingston, Jamaica.
1EYE's love for Reggae music was prevalent on their first album 'Whiskey Business', which seamlessly blends Latin, Reggae, Soul and Jazz. This was only made possible by the diverse backgrounds of the individual members that are the make up of 1EYE.
Alek Sapic (Lead Vocals) founded 'Orquesta Huracan' in 1997 alongside his brother AndySax (Alto Sax) and Hugh Graham (Drums). Orquesta Huracan soon established itself as one of the UK's leading Salsa bands performing 1970's New York salsa dura.
By the time Sam Rogers (Tenor Sax) had joined in 2000, Orquesta Huracan had played at Ronnie Scott's, The Orange WOW Festival, The Lowry in Manchester and were regulars at The Wardrobe Club in Leeds.
By 2004 there had been changes to personnel, Sam was back from a sabbatical playing on the QE2 and Orquesta Huracan changed its name to 'Del Camino'. Del Camino has since maintained a jumping monthly residency at The Jam House in Birmingham. They have also supported Plan B, UB40, Beverley Knight, Tony Christie, and more recently featured on the Cubana stage at Glastonbury 2010.
Alek and Andy also feature as Plan B's brass section and can be seen in the 'Love Goes Down' video and in the recent Hewlett Packard HP Beats advert. Andy toured with plan B in 2010 upon the release of his hugely successful album, 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks'. He played at a variety of venues and festivals including Royal Festival Hall, Shepherds Bush Empire, Glastonbury and Radio 1's Big Weekend and played on a number of TV shows including Later Live with Jools Holland and Alan Carr's 'Chatty Man'. As well as being resident saxophonist on the QE2, Sam Rogers has also toured with Jane McDonald, Alvin Stardust and has played with The Beat. Both Alek and Andy also feature as Russian gangsters in the forthcoming movie 'Ill Manors' which has been directed by Plan B and will be released in cinemas early 2012.
1EYE 's Whiskey Business enjoyed moderate success with regular play on International radio stations and live support slots with Toots and the Maytals and Musical Youth. The remix of 'Worries & Trouble' featuring Apache Indian is still available for download on www.industryrecords.org. With the addition of new members Adam Sapic (Keys), James Crosdale (Bass) and Tom Ford (Guitar), the all-new 1EYE is ready for 2012. The exciting new Rocksteady set
with its sweet sounds and skanking licks will take you back to late 60's Kingston and force you into shaking a leg or two! (Check out 1EYE's Facebook BandPage and Myspace for a sneak preview of the album - 4 live mixes produced by Soljie Hamilton in Kingston, Jamaica).
1EYE will be showcasing most of their forthcoming album at The Hare & Hounds, 106 High St, Kings Heath, Birmingham B14 7JZ on Friday 23rd September 2011 as headline for the return of Jibbering sessions. Jibbering sessions will bounce back into action, following the summer session (Shambala Festival), with a storming double bill at a ludicrous price! In support, members of the Jibbering family including Bongo Damo, Tangawizi and Mr Muz will host the post Shambala celebrations...!!!
