About Me:

Anime fan reborn!

I loved anime growing up. Didn't matter what genre, what production studio or what year the anime came out: I was like a black hole of anime consumption; then one day I got burnt out and quit anime cold turkey.

Now the years have past and I'm feeling that itch, at once odd and familiar, to watch some anime. A lot of stuff has happened since I've been gone! Anime Turnpike isn't the go-to place for anime links anymore. Anime has managed to penetrate the American market to a degree previously unheard of and, of course, the advent of YouTube and other media sharing websites has facilitated the fandom with expressing its appreciation for the medium via cosplay photos, convention videos, anime reviews, etc.

It's a brave new world for anime fans and I can't wait to catch up.

Top 5 Favorite Anime:

NOTE: There's a difference between "favorite" and "best." I've seen some amazing anime but if I don't want to see it again and again I don't consider it my favorite.

5) Love Hina

Harem anime done right. It's in my Top 5 Favorite and harem anime isn't close to my favorite genre!

4) Escaflowne

Underrated in my opinion. Yes, it's a very popular anime but I think it deserves even more praise and attention than it gets!

3) Cromartie High

The best piss take on well-worn anime tropes I have ever seen! Each episode is packed with amazing jokes and the type of randomness where you can actually see the thought process behind it instead of it being random just for random's sake.

2) Serial Experiments Lain

THE most underrated series, in my humble opinion. It's semi-popular with anime fans and certainly isn't a complete unknown but I rarely see it listed in anyone's Top 10 and I don't think that's fair. Extremely surreal, intelligent and philosophical, it is at the very least the best anime based on a game I have ever had the pleasure of viewing.

1) Neon Genesis Evangelion

OK, so this choice is probably uncontroversial! This is, in my opinion, hands down the greatest anime series ever created. Yes, it's flawed. Yes, it can be very confusing at times. Yes, the scheduling difficulties during the making of Evangelion hurt its overall quality. Regardless, I have never seen any other anime that combines philosphy, action and drama in such an amazing and unique way with as great and diverse a cast as Evangelion. Hideaki Anno is a genius and this is one series where the more you look into it the more you get out of it.

I would ask you to check it out but if you're an anime fan you probably already have!
