About this user

Actress, Writer, Director and Creative Producer. Santamaria was born in Colombia and trained as an actor at the renowned Teatro Libre of Bogota from 1991 to 1994. In 1995. She moved to New York City where she studied screenwriting and cinema at New York University.

From 2002 to 2008, Santamaria worked in the production and distribution of films for the Latino market. For her, this was the ground breaking work for understanding the logistics of the TV and Filmmaking industry. During this time, she also managed to do theater where she wore many hats as creative producer, playwright and actor. She traveled and performed internationally.
In 2007, she decided to become a fulltime filmmaker, and concentrate her energies on writing and directing. During this time, she made documentaries and short films, and wrote a full-length screenplay "Papers and Sex".
In 2009, before going into her first screenplay's pre- production she wanted to have the feeling of finishing a full-length film applying a theater "way" of making the story line which she learned from Colombian director Santiago Garcia. The technique is called "Creación collectiva" ("Collective Creation"). Santamaria felt that by accomplishing it she would be more confident with the technicalities and aesthetics of movie making. Sure enough this became "Equal Strength", a project that brought surprises to her as well as her husband/co-producer Joseph Hammond.
