About this user
I'm a composer and audio engineer working in an electronic company as a sound assistant just so I can sustain my very existence. My working OS is Windows XP. I use Cakewalk Sonar 3 and 8 for MIDI sequencing and Audition 1.5 and 3 for sound editing/recording but am moving on to Cockos Reaper because Roland and Adobe are ruining their products (re)progressively.
About MIDI instrument samples, I still actively use Soundfont with Creative soundcard because it's so convenient. Bennet Ng's AnotherGS sound bank provides decent sound quality with absurdly small size, ~30 MB. When I need to get serious I will use East West libraries (Play engine). Anyway I often load EW samples until the score is almost complete with Soundfont. Because EW's samples are quite demanding and my computer hardware is just not good enough. Usually when the score is slightly complicated the preview just sounds like crap.
My musical style is predominantly influenced by Hitoshi Sakimoto since Final Fantasy Tactics (1997) and then deeply impressed by Hayato Matsuo for his orchestral and electronic scores in Front Mission 3 (1999). After Mr. Sakimoto has founded his own studio, Basiscape, Mitsuhiro Kaneda becomes my next favorite for his highly sophisticated scores in Odin Sphere.
You can use the MIDI data and audio sample of my transcription (not my original composition, of course) without asking because I don't own anything of the original scores. Most of them can be downloaded from Vgmusic.com freely. Just don't do anything stupid that would cause you to be sued by the copyright holder.
