The Smiths - Sweet and Tender Hooligan JazzDayz - 20,333 views - 5 months ago
He was a sweet and tender hooligan, hooligan
And he said that he'd never, never do it again
And of course he won't (oh not until the next time)

He was a sweet and tender hooligan, hooligan
And he swore that he'll never, never do it again
And of course he won't (oh, not until the next time)

Poor old man
He had an ''accident'' with a three-bar fire
But that's o.k.
Because he wasn't very happy anyway
Poor woman
Strangled in her very on bed as she read
But that's o.k.
Because she was old and she would have died anyway
Don't blame

The sweet and tender hooligan, hooligan
Because he'll never, never, never, never, never, never do it again
(not until the next time)

Jury, you've heard every word
So before you decide
Would you look into those ''mother me'' eyes
I love you for you, my love, you my love
You my love, you my love
Jury, you've heard every word
But before you decide
Would you look into those ''mother me'' eyes
I love you for you my love, you my love
I love you just for you, my love
Don't blame

The sweet and tender hooligan, hooligan
Because he'll never, never do it again
And...
''In the midst of life we are in death etc.''
Don't forget the hooligan, hooligan
Because he'll never, never do it again
And...
''In the midst of life we are in death etc.''

Etc! etc! etc! etc!
In the midst of life we are in death etc!
Etc! etc! etc! etc!
In the midst of life we are in debt etc!

Just will you free me?
Will you find me?
Will you free me?
Will you find me?
Will you free me, free me, free me, free me, free me, fee me, free me?
Jury will you free me?
Will you find me?
Will you free me?
Will you find me?
How will you find me, find me, find me, find me, find me, find me, find me?
Oh etc! etc! etc! etc! etc! etc!
Etc! etc! etc! etc!
In the midst of life we are in death etc!
Oh...oh...

The Names were a Post-Punk band from Brussels (Belgium), formed in 1978 around bassist and songwriter Michel Smordynia. After local gigs as The Passengers, they changed their name in time for their debut single, Spectators of Life, released by WEA in 1979 to test the market for home-grown new wave music. (wikipedia)

Morrissey reads Marcel Proust!

On March 13 1988, Howard Devoto's new band, Luxuria, played the Town & Country Club in Kentish Town, London NW5 to promote the release of their debut album, 'Unanswerable Lust'.
As the band played the opening bars of the song Mlle (Mademoiselle), Howard introduced a very special guest....

The Durutti Column - Thin Ice (detail) samuraiin... - 1,219 views - 1 year ago
Originally relesed as part of A Factory Sample released Dec. 1978 (with material from Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and John Dowie), the song Thin Ice (detail) was recorded by the earliest line up of The Durutti Column (consisting of drummer Chris Joyce, guitarist Dave Rowbotham, Vini Reilly, guitarist for Manchester punk rock band Ed Banger and The Nosebleeds, vocalist Phil Rainford, keyboardist Stephen Hopkins and bassist Tony Bowers) and it was one of the only two recorded during this lineup.

After the recording of these two songs the band broke up after a dispute with Tony Wilson making The Durutti Column a solo project of guitarrist Vini Reilly.

An existentialist song...

Sometimes I think about the second/pain/day
The things I've seen and read
Sometimes I feel about the inhumanity
The dying and the dead
You wonder how they got that way
You know they beat their feet
There's some pretty strange people around
There's a lot I wouldn't like to kiss/meet/hold
There's things I feel passionate about
But they're things I'd rather not discuss
Unless you insist and I really must
It's all dashes to the masses, lust to dust
It's nonsense, really
It's a crying shame
The hot and the lame
The blind leading the blind
With the blinds down
The blind leading the blind
It's a crying shame
The blind leading the blind
The blinds down
Blinds down
Blinds

The Durutti Column - No Communication samuraiin... - 4,074 views - 1 year ago
Originally relesed as part of A Factory Sample released Dec. 1978 (with material from Joy Division, Cabaret Voltaire and John Dowie), the song No Communication was recorded by the earliest line up of The Durutti Column (consisting of drummer Chris Joyce, guitarist Dave Rowbotham, Vini Reilly, guitarist for Manchester punk rock band Ed Banger and The Nosebleeds, vocalist Phil Rainford, keyboardist Stephen Hopkins and bassist Tony Bowers) and it was one of the only two recorded during this lineup.

After the recording of these two songs the band broke up after a dispute with Tony Wilson making The Durutti Column a solo project of guitarrist Vini Reilly.

The song is a chilling prediction of things to come...

Lyrics:
Dance... to the disco radio
Sit... at my television technicolour show
Wait... for the numbers to begin
Don't know
Self... addressed envelopes
Tape loop... on my videophone, videophone
No, it's a joke
No communication, the human race
No communication, not face to face
Face to face with the human race
Face to face with the human humans
A warning to those who build ruins
Keep the traffic moving
Travel for pleasure alone
Liquid stockings repairable but stolen
A warning to those who build ruins
No communication, the human race
No communication, not face to face
Dance.
