en azert irtam angolul, hogy Miso is megertse. azt akartam neki megmagyarazni (vagy inkabb megangolozni :) ), hogy a magyarorszagi szlovakok elmagyarosodasa nem egy eroszakos magyaritas eredmenye, es hogy sok szlovak onkent tavozott (repatriacio - hazat, foldet igertek nekik csehszlovakia teruleten; es lakossag csere) az 1. es 2. VH utan. de azt nem lehet mondani, hogy a szlovakok protezsalva lettek volna (azert a helyzetuk sokkal jobb volt mint idonkent a mienk itt a felfoldon - ugyanis magyarorszagon nem volt szlovakuldozes, sem eroszakos kitelepites). szerintem, egy szellemileg fejlett nemzet buzditja es keblere oleli kisebbsegeit (persze abban az esetben, ha az az etnikum nem eppen csak kihasznalja a jot es cserebe csak lop es szaporodik, de ebben az esetben is individualis hozzaallast kell alkalmazni). ez meg nics jelen a magyarorszagi magyar lelkivilagban... a szlovakban meg vegkep nincs.

but man, we did not count with real population growth and some other facts. well the real number shuld be much higher... well a strong assimilation went through surely. they are only two possibilities (or the combination of these two possibilities) are likely:
1. something was wrong (at least for a while) with the minority policy in hungary (similar situation was also in slovakia at an epoch, but magyars were much stronger in the second aspect as one will see)
2. the national-consciousness of slovaks was very low.

In the same time we will exclude the factor of the population growth.
OK, let say that 30% of that population intermaried with magyars and the F1 generation identifies itself to be magyar. let say that the generation rate is 1/20 years. this way we can count with 4 generations. 250.000 x 0.7 = 175.000 after the first generation. now 70.000 slovaks left hungary. so we have 105.000 slovaks. with the next 3 generations we get 36.000 slovaks instaed of 20.000.

on the other hand ibrapapa, there was surely something wrong with the approach toward minorities in hungary (at a certain time) if only 20.000 people declare themself slovaks. since the number of repatriants after the WWII wasnt more than 70.000 (overestimated number)
let underestimate the number of ethnic slovaks in hungary in the year 1920 (taking in account also the possibility that 10% of the local slovaks moved to Czechoslovakia /or decided to become magyars, because they felt that the bias from slovaks from the pure slovak lands against the magyars was over-exagerated and they simply did not agreed with the split which happened/ as well as the highly probable situation that 1/4 of the people who declared that they speak slovak were not ethnic slovaks) and just operate with 250.000 people.

ibnfahlan: 460 000 were people able to speak slovak. thus the real number of those being ethnic slovaks was lower. ...but still a very significant number. but do not forget about the repatriation of slovaks (which was voluntary)... many facts as well as many lies are on both sides. sometimes you tend to believe in some lies or at least to ignore some facts. for example, my grandpa was magyar but he spoke also slovak and german fluently. does it mean that he was also a slovak and a german? your friend Gabor speaks slovak too, does it make him slovak? Furthermore, from this distance (of time) we can only guess what those people felt to be slovaks or magyars (or nothing like that).
