IAI Records & Video was founded in 1974 as Improvising Artists by jazz pianist, Paul Bley, and video artist, Carol Goss.
In the 1970s Billboard Magazine sited IAI as the first label to release long format video programs.
Carol Goss, a pioneer video artist,
has performed on a wide range of
video synthesizers in collaboration with jazz musicians such as Sun Ra, Jimmy Giuffre, Lee Konitz, Jaco Pastorius, Badal Roy, Nana Vasconcelos, Paul Bley and others.
Paul Bley's influence on modern jazz improvisation and the trio form is widely acknowledged. He has performed with most of the important jazz players of the past fifty years, including: Charlie Parker, Lee Konitz, Ornette Coleman, Jaco Pastorius and Pat Metheney. Additionally, in 1974, he produced Jaco and Pat Metheney's debut album.
