About this user

Iain Watt (BMus Hons.) is a 22 year old drummer, hailing from Belfast, Northern Ireland.

He has been playing drums for over 7 years now, and has played in various local bands, and intends to keep an open mind to music, with regards to genre and compositional structure.

Some of his main influences in drumming include Jose Pasillas (Incubus), Mike Mangini (Steve Vai, Extreme) Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree), Jason Rullo (Symphony X),Neal Peart (Rush), Billy Cobham (Mahavishnu Orchestra, Miles Davis), Marco Minnemann (Paul Gilbert) and John Dolmayan (System of a Down, Scars on Broadway)

He was a drummer for the University of Ulster jazz band; and participated in a few of their classical recitals, including playing percussion for the University of Ulster choir's performance of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms. He also took part in playing music for 2 dance performances, including the piece "Clapping Music" by Steve Reich.

Looking to the future, Iain is currently taking a break from gigging and bands, to focus on his own practising and to also focus on his DJ work which he also does in his spare time. He will be moving to Raleigh, North Carolina in May 2009, to pursue a career in drum performance, as a session musician or band member.
