About I sing with my hands. :)

Hi there,
So I know my videos aren't that awesome (to someone who actually knows sign language, anyway), but you have to take them for what they are. I'm not trying to show off a talent or anything (though it makes me really happy if people like them), I'm using them to document my progress (which I've made quite a lot of & hope to continue to make) in learning sign language. That said, I do enthusiastically accept CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

Q: Are you deaf?/Can you speak?
A: No, I am not deaf or hard of hearing. I am not a C(/K)ODA (I'm a NERDA, actually-- Not Even Related to a Deaf Adult). Yes, I can speak & outside of my videos I do that quite often.

Q: Why did you decide to learn sign language?
A: It was something I'd been curious about for a while, & I literally just happened to stumble upon a YouTube video of someone signing a song I like, & pretty much just fell in love (with signing xD). For a while, even though I watched the videos somewhat obsessively, I never thought I'd make videos myself. It wasn't until I realized that I could (or thought I could xD) sign a few songs that I became interested in doing so. See, I really love to sing, but I'm really not good at it, so I like to think I'm singing with my hands. :)

Q: How long did it take you to learn sign language?
A: I wouldn't use "learn" in the past tense, haha. I am currently learning sign language & have been since March 2010. & I've still got a long way to go.

Q: How are you learning sign language?
A: Because my school doesn't offer sign language classes (though I plan to take them in college), I teach myself through the Internet. YouTube videos, informative articles, & video dictionaries have all played a role. Outside of that, I have a book called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Conversational Sign Language" (yeah, yeah xD) & a friend who is a NODA (Niece Of a Deaf Adult).

Q: I want to learn sign language. What Web sites can help me?
A: I've found that YouTube can be an invaluable learning tool, but ASLPro.com & SigningSavvy.com are also very helpful. It should be noted that neither of those sites work as a stand-alone learning tool. That would be like trying to learn to speak English with just a dictionary. You'd know the words/signs, but not how to use them.
But the absolute BEST way to learn ASL (or any language, really) is through classes.

Q: Can I request a song for you to sign?
A: Just say please. :) I will be posting a video regarding song requests soon! For now, just bear in mind that complicated or fast songs, & songs with a lot of figuritive meaning, are very difficult to interpret/sign. Also, I'm much more likely to sign a song if I already know it, so I'd recommend checking out the list of music I like below! :)
