Epitimia's new double-album "(Un)reality" is a culmination of over a year's hard work for the Saint-Petersburg based band which has been working on an expansive and ambitious follow-up to their last album "Faces of Insanity" released in the summer of 2012. "(Un)reality" includes lots of new innovations and interesting ideas on both the musical and conceptual sides and could easily be considered their most accomplished effort to date. Tortured black metal screams alongside a progressive and experimental cacophony of sounds combine to create a truly memorable and complex album taking various elements from many genres including post-rock, black metal, blackgaze, ambient, and jazz to create the sonic palette for this conceptual story. Female vocalist "M." is also present on the album once again as well as very interesting session work from the saxophonist D'arcy Molan (from the debut Subterranean Disposition album) whose contributions appears throughout the album. Released in a deluxe 6 panel digipack with an additional 12 page booklet and augmented with artwork from Mayhem Design in Russia, this is certainly Epitimia's magnum opus!

"(Un)reality is like limbo, the world where the hero lingers. His day life here is infinite and artificial, but his dreams fill his mind with bright new images, odd flashbacks, and the reminiscence of his other lives. These visions are the keys to understanding what is happening to him, and may be the only chance to escape. "Delusion" contains the dark images of objective reality while "Illusions" is a moment in which all his dreams merge: hope, love and as the most important -- the desire for truth, by which he will be free forever."

Windbruch - No Stars, Only Full Dark Play

Cold and mesmerizing atmospheric black metal from the Siberian region of Yugra in the city of Nizhnevartovsk, Windbruch presents their second full-length album "No stars, only full dark" after releasing their debut "Collisions of the World" in late 2009 on Sun and Moon Records. With their new effort, Windbruch succeeds in creating a delicate and emotional soundtrack for the heart of winter with a genuine sound rooted firmly in the original aura and atmosphere of black metal but with a distinct Siberian twist. "No stars, only full dark" has a strong cinematic component to it turning the album into a journey. Dialogue from the Russian film "Stalker" is included in the track "Only Full Dark", and "Neswa-Pawuk" is based on the novel "Nomads of the North" from the american writer James Oliver Curwood who wrote about two fugitives escaping to the Canadian tundra. An ode to all things cold, bleak, and distressing, "No stars, only full dark" is the perfect soundtrack for lonely cold winter nights.

"The whole album is something like a message from silent space or another reality. It is а sonic message to humanity to stop the exploitation of our home planet. Hundreds of years of war and over-consumption of the gifts of nature can not last forever. The future is coming. The dark future without stars. This concept finds reflection in the novel "Nomads of the North" by J. O. Curwood in some chapters and the cover itself refers to the same novel"

In my Shiver - Delicate Poison Play

In my Shiver is an experimental black metal/shoegaze band from Camerino, Italy with conceptual themes about the loneliness and sadness of modern life, cityscapes, and a critique of the dominant culture. In 2009 In my Shiver released their debut album "Black Seasons" through Solitude and Despair Music in South Korea and now they present their follow-up album "Delicate Poison." Combining oppressive and ferocious black metal with melancholic modern depressive rock, In My Shiver blends these sounds to create an unrelenting modern depressive classic with amazing riffs and melodies. In particular In my Shiver utilizes dissonant chord structures to create an uncomfortable and claustrophobic atmosphere and has a strong ability in using contrasts throughout the album which is only heightened by a professional sound quality, strong musicianship, and a diverse vocal performance. This album will appeal to fans of post-black metal, and 80's rock/electronic music, and in particular fans of Katatonia, Solefald, and early-Ulver.

Ekove Efrits - Nowhere Play

Ekove Efrits, the atmospheric project of Saman N. hailing from Tehran, Iran returns with a follow-up to the 2011 album "Conceptual Horizon."With "Nowhere", the fourth full-length album from Ekove Efrits, Saman shows a continual evolution in his songwriting and recording abilities, not deviating far from the sound and identity of previous Ekove Efrits albums but offering fifty-one minutes of twisted, dark, sombre, and atmospheric music intertwined with harsh black metal stylistics, female vocals, and electronic/trip-hop elements, with an added cinematic and film-score like quality which has not been present to this degree in any previous Ekove Efrits album. Certainly a tour de force for this unique project, "Nowhere" will deliver a total trip for the mind and promises to be a visual experience as well as a sonic one! This will certainly appeal to fans of Ulver, Manes, and netra, among others. Another interesting element on this album is the collaboration with Megan Tassaker, vocalist of the Australian Gothic Doom band Lycanthia whose vocals appear throughout the album and really add to the ethereal and melancholic sound. Mastered by Barry Gardner in the UK and with contributions on the album art front from surrealist Norwegian artist Jessica Enneby Eldenstjärna in addition to Saman who is a graphic artist by trade, this album aims to be a complete immersive experience.

stroszek - wild years of remorse and failures 2cd Play

The acclaimed early works of the folk/acoustic project stroszek have been sold out and unavailable for quite some time, but now in 2013 we are pleased to reintroduce these monumental albums in the form of a special double-album reissue which includes a complete remastering of all the tracks, as well as rerecorded vocals on the "songs of remorse" album. In total, the reissued double-album will include the "songs of remorse", and "life failures made music" full-lengths, the "the wild hunt" ep, as well as two brand new cover songs making this a must-have for stroszek fans and collectors who missed the original versions as well as for those who want to hear the updated versions of "songs of remorse" with a more apt vocal performance. Originally released between 2007-2009, this reissue, featuring brand new album art and including lyrics and liner notes allows you to embrace the darkness and melancholy of stroszek once more.

remorse - disc 1
With carefully strummed minor key acoustic guitars, deliberate yet restrained piano lines, bursts of heaviness added for texture and deep, lush clean sung vocals that relay a sense of dread lurking beneath the surface, "songs of remorse" is perhaps at once one of the most melancholic yet accessible albums of 2007.

failures - disc 2
stroszek returns with their second opus, the follow-up to 'songs of remorse', with the aptly titled 'life failures made music'; and with song titles like 'the unlucky ones', 'gone by the fall', and 'land of silence and darkness' its no secret that this album is filled with crushing sadness. Take equal parts Neofolk, the fatalist mentality of Black Metal, the darkness of older Alice in Chains, the beautiful acoustics of latter-day Antimatter and the painfully soft, whispered vocals of Tom Waits and it is easy to see precisely why this crushing sadness is what makes this record so damn special.

Hypnotic Dirge 2013/14 | Disillusionment and Indifference Play

Presenting the latest edition(s) in the annual Hypnotic Dirge compilation albums which have always been (and always will be) available for free download. This year, due to the enormous size, we've decided to release two compilation albums simultaneously.

The compilations are divided into vaguely Black Metal and Doom Metal variations. It's not an exact science due to the diversity of bands and tracks included, but the idea was to try to have a similar "feeling" throughout and to make each compilation more digestible rather than a huge monolithic entity.

The second "disc" - entitled "The Wild Haunts Us Still; Disillusionment and Indifference" presenting the Doom Metal related material includes tracks from Lycanthia, Odradek Room, Vin de Mia Trix, Subterranean Disposition, and stroszek from the Hypnotic Dirge side, while also including Wine From Tears, Negative Voice, Cuckoo's Nest, As Autumn Calls, and Truthseeker (Brendan from Obsidian Tongue's other project) as guest artists and including two widely different cover songs, one of which is Madonna`s "Frozen" covered by Subterranean Disposition and including a guest saxaphone appearance and the other being "tecumseh valley", a Townes Van Zandt song covered by stroszek.

We hope the two compilation albums released simultaneously will serve as a nice introduction to Hypnotic Dirge if you're unfamiliar with the label, while also simply being a nice collection of songs from the Black Metal and Doom Metal underground, especially from particularly eclectic and experimental artists. Those familiar with HDR already will hopefully find the compilation fresh and interesting regardless due to the additions of all the guest appearances and exclusive cover songs.

netra ft. We'rewolves - Dreading Consciousness EP Play

A strange and unexpected collaboration between the black metal/trip-hop hybrid netra and the unconventional rap duo We'rewolves has led to the creation and release of a new digital EP entitled "Dreading Consciousness." After releasing the previous two netra full-length albums on a physical medium, Hypnotic Dirge Records is pleased to release this experimental collaboration as a free digital download!

netra, the project of solo member Steven LeMoan has always written music that has pushed the limits of conventional black metal, but this will undoubtedly prove to be by far the biggest deviation from metal-based instrumentation to date! Always present to a certain degree, the trip-hop elements in netra's music are given full reigns on "Dreading Consciousness" and this is the first netra release almost totally void of black metal vocals, instead allowing rap vocals to take center stage. However, the dark undertones of urban life, boredom, and depression remain but are instead presented through a totally different approach.

We'rewolves - a rap duo from California - is comprised of veteran emcees Hockeymask and Konsept. Known for their above average knack for wordplay and innovative imaginations, the two have created quite a name for themselves in the Central California underground scene. With a love of all things dark and bizarre We'rewolves have frequently used samples in their previous releases from Occult Psychedelia, Crust Punk, and Black Metal while their lyrical themes have always focused on the struggles of life, depression, suicide, drug-abuse, and insanity.

Drug-fueled, mentally crippling claustrophobic horror rap with a totally depressing vibe and a contempt for humanity is what is presented in this short collaborative EP. The stylistic instrumentation of trip-hop with the occasional foray into a black metal sound is surprisingly fitting with the lyrics and themes presented within. Though possibly unexpected, it can be said with a certain degree of confidence that you have not heard anything like this before. This EP has the potential to be totally polarizing but fans of music who explore various genres might very well consider this essential.

Vin de Mia Trix - Once Hidden From Sight Play

After numerous gigs (including Doom Over Kiev, Moscow Doom Fest, and supporting Saturnus, Mourning Beloveth and Autumnia among others), a self-released demo and an EP, Vin de Mia Trix comes up with their debut full-length "Once Hidden From Sight." Blending together various doom sub-genres, the album from the Ukrainian band is a culmination of over 3 years of writing and perfecting their own sound. Lengthy mid-tempo opuses with crushing funeral riffs morphing into melancholic acoustic passages create a mysterious and dark atmosphere with songs rooted between Funeral and Death/Doom Metal, but incorporating bits of Black Metal, Post-Rock, Progressive Metal, Blues and some other genres. Co-released by Hypnotic Dirge Records and Solitude Productions with a 12-page booklet with lyrics included, "Once Hidden From Sight" offers every fan of dark music something for the soul!"
