I once raised a baby starling that had fallen out of its nest. I wish I had known they could talk. One day it saw an open window and decided it was time to go. We never saw it again.

That's not a dove, it's a pigeon. Doves are too skittish around humans to ever do such a thing. The bird was probly disoriented and hungry and was used to getting food from humans. Did you feed it?
