Our Mission is: To end hunger, homelessness and poverty in the state of Georgia.

Our Vision is: To achieve well-being for all families, so that their basic necessities of life are met. This includes having access to nutritious affordable food, safe and affordable housing, affordable comprehensive healthcare and a quality education for everyone.
About Me:

In December 1974, the Georgia Citizens' Coalition on Hunger (Hunger Coalition) was founded as a statewide coalition of concerned citizens. Representatives from civic organizations, labor unions and the church realized that thousands of children and adults were experiencing serious conditions of malnutrition and nutrition related health problems. A statewide conference was held and it was unanimously agreed upon that something needed to be done to address the conditions of hunger that existed in our state.
The Hunger Coalition has played a critical role in increasing participation of eligible households in the Food Stamp Program. We also launched a statewide campaign effort to expand the WIC program, School Breakfast and the Summer Feeding Programs across the state. It was the Hunger Coalition that initiated and organized the first income based childcare feeding program in Georgia. Tens of thousands of low-income people were assisted as a result of these initiatives. This was the focus of our work during the late 1970's and the 1980's. Today, our mission is holistic and comprehensive in addressing the conditions of hunger and poverty. The coalition coordinates several community projects that serve low income families. They include: The Up and Out of Poverty NOW Project, the Georgia Living Wage Coalition, Umoja Farmer's Market and Thriftshop, the Umoja Organic Garden, The Hunger Hotline and Georgia Human Rights Union.
