I hate to tell the chicago person this but like someone once told me. In DC they call it this, in Chicago they call it that, in Philly they call it something else. I'm from DC, grew up in this error and know that it started in DC. I've been doing it for an extremely long time and perhaps you have too.

I grew up in Boston and momache is right.There is nothing like the way the girls from the south end. Would give other girls a run for the dance floor.I was bless to take my dancing futher into my life . Moving to NYC and dancing at the Savoy learning the Lindy Hop from another Boston Lady. the one the only Mama Lu Parks.I am in Col Ohio now. And hand dancing is hot here too.With many differant style from Chicago,Mich.Tenn,. This style of dancing will never go away it is our History to pass on to our youth.I have taught my 10YR ord God Daughter to lindy hop and hand dance. She loves it. And the beat goes on.

I'm from Boston and a child of the 60's. My Mother and Aunt taught me to 'fast dance'. I used to win contests at the dances at churches and different places. While visiting a friend in DC, he took me to a club. He thought he could 'hand dance' until I showed him out (really wasn't doing it very well), then his cousin 'cut in' and we TORE IT UP!!! Whenever there is a reunion of Old School in the Boston area, the fast dancers take the floor.
