About Hugin Munin

Founded in 2008, Hugin Munin is already a rising force in the brazilian underground. Deeply influenced by bands like Amon Amarth and Unleashed, these five warriors show lots of personality, strenght and energy in their groundshaking compositions. After taking viking metal to a new level in Brazil, they plan on conquering new shores as soon as possible. The word is spreading more and more each day, and Surt, Thorgrim, Modi, Hjalmar and Sigurd are just getting started. HAIL ODIN !!!

From the ashes of Dark Eden, considered by many the greatest Brazilian doom metal band ever, Surt, Thorgrim, Hjalmar and Modi created Hugin Munin. In the last days of 2007 the four members decided they wanted to play heavier than ever, and this is how it all began. ---

--- The band was initially called Gungnir, but due to copyright issues they became Hugin Munin right after the first song "Die for ODIN" was finished. The song was a combination of power and melody, and it was soon followed by Battle for Asgard and A Viking Funeral. It was clear that they had developed an identity of their own, and it was time to start recording ---

--- 2008 was a year of many achievements for Hugin Munin. Their first single: "A Viking Funeral", hit hard the Brazilian underground scene, and when the EP Ravens Empire was released they were pointed by many, including Brazilian biggest heavy metal magazine: Roadie Crew, as the next in line to becoming the greatest death metal band to ever rise in South America. The next release would be "Die for ODIN", and it definitely brought the band to a new level. ---

--- The band became largely known when the albums Ravens Empire and Die for ODIN were put together and released in Europe as a full-length called "Viking Brothers". Great support was received from metalheads worldwide and Hugin Munin played live several times in Brazil, including as a support act for great names like Krisiun and Korpiklaani. Always hungry for more, the band released the mind blowing "Heroes Rise", even more successful than its predecessors. ---

--- "Heroes Rise" got lots of good reviews and the band was playing tons of concerts when the bass player Sigurd stepped in, setting the ultimate line-up. Hugin Munin played in brazil's greatest underground festivals as headliners, when not, as opening acts to great names such as Eluveitie and Torture Squad. The word was spreading fast and it was time for the first full length album. ---

--- In 2010, gathered in their hometown, Santos, the five metal warriors began the recording of "Ten Thousand Spears for Ten Thousand Gods". The album was released on October, 2011, featuring special appearances from Luciana Campos (Intrisicum -- Brazil), Goatherion (Wrinkled Witch and many others -- Brazil) and Ne Urg and Bardauk (Waldwind -- Germany). ---

--- Following the release of "Ten Thousand Spears for Ten Thousand Gods", the band plans to launch a worldwide full death metal assault and conquer as many shores as possible with their ever growing metal army. A new chapter begins, let the tale be told and new battles come, because Hugin Munin is here to stay, bloodthirsty, and just getting started. ---
