BURNING MAN
The Burning Man festival is one of the biggest events of the year for artists, musicians, and fans alike. With an atmosphere dedicated to personal freedom, inventions, costumes, and constructive pyromania, the experience is worth every step of the trek through the desert.
DJ Lee Kalt has taken some of the best moments from the Burning Man festival and shared them in a series of online videos. Using a variety of techniques including time-lapse photography and handheld shooting, Lee captures the frenetic and tranquil moments of the festival as a whole. As always, music is kept in the foreground, given Lees popularity in the genres of House and Club music around the world, so even a remote location like the deserts of Nevada isnt enough to keep away Lee Kalts legion of dedicated fans.
Despite the overall popularity of the Burning Man experience, it is uncommon to see it captured in a TV format. Now, thanks to the extensive videography of Lee Kalt and his fellow DJs, we can see all the highlights, including kinetic art, light shows, esoteric attractions, and the ubiquitous flame displays culminating in the immolation of the figure for whom the festival is named. RICHIE HAWTIN
Canada's RICHIE HAWTIN has made his mark on electronic music by being both inventive and innovative. His career takes him all over the world with tour dates in over 25 nations on average each year. Born in Banbury, England, his family moved to Windsor in the late 1970's. As a teenager Hawtin found inspiration to make music from a combination of techno music from Detroit, his father's record collection and an obsession with computers, video games and science fiction. As a recording artist, producer, remixer, live performer and DJ, his productions are recorded in Windsor and released on his now legendary Plus 8 & Minus record labels. Today, in between touring the globe he spends time in his studios in Windsor, Canada and Berlin, Germany.
With over fifteen years of DJ experience, Hawtin has headlined some of the most prestigious festivals and events in club culture to date and continues to define rather than follow musical trends. Internationally in demand, from Seoul to Sydney, San Francisco to Sao Paulo or Dublin to Istanbul, Hawtin's developed sound of entertaining and interesting DJ art continues to push dance music into the future. His DJ reputation has earned him many Best International DJ awards with fans and the music industry.
On record it was Hawtin's recording moniker of PLASTIKMAN that put him in the limelight, with a mix of techno and ambient sounds. His dedication to his craft has also received notoriety, performing live with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, creating sound installations for the French Ministry of Culture's Millennium Celebration and composing music for the Torino 2006 XXth Olympic Winter Games opening ceremonies.
Not content with technology of today, Hawtin has had a unique vision in developing creative options for musicians to create and perform electronic music with, most notably with early involvement in the Final Scratch DJ system and his own modifications to DJ equipment. His attention to detail and desire to push the envelope both in the studio and on the stage continues to be his beacon of determination in addition to being Canada's electronic music ambassador.

DUBFIRE
In the world of dance music, some artists set musical agendas - others follow. Dubfire has stood firmly in the first camp for his entire career. As one half of electronic music legends, Deep Dish, with studio partner, Sharam Tayebi, Ali Dubfire Shirazinia has won Grammys, released a brace of hit singles, remixed musics biggest names, and rocked the most respected clubs the world over.
While taking a creative break from Deep Dish (as he and Sharam both pursue individual projects), Dubfire has moved onto a different trajectory, but one thats very much in keeping with a music obsessive whose record collection spans punk, industrial/new wave, jazz, dub, hip-hop, house, and techno.
The aforementioned mix of influences is no more evident than on his single I Feel Speed -- a cover of an overlooked Love & Rockets song -- with Dubfire on vocal duty. A substantial nod to his musical beginnings, I Feel Speed is further proof that artistically, Dubfire isnt afraid to push boundaries, something for which hes been increasingly heralded in 2007.
Accolades for Dubfires productions have flowed thick and fast from Mixmag (including being asked to mix the magazines prestigious covermount CD), DJ Mag and Raveline (featured on the cover of both), to IDJ, Groove, Beatportal, Resident Advisor, and many more. And thats just the press. His DJ and producer peers have afforded tracks such as Roadkill and RibCage burgeoning acclaim, in both chart reactions and interviews. Such critically (and commercially) successful productions have served asmonumental openers for Dubfires new digital-release-only label, Science + Technology Digital Audio (SCI + TEC). Initially formed as the exclusive outlet for Dubfire's solo productions, it will grow to incorporate releases from some of his favourite emerging and recognized artists from around the globe.
With distribution and download partners including Beatport, iTunes, and Zebralution, SCI+TEC has quickly established an international reputation as a label that no discerning electronic fan should miss.
2007 also saw the release of his first solo Global Underground mix album, Taipei. If ever a mix compilation exemplified an artist riding the zeitgeist, then Taipei is it. Like a Dubfire live set, the albums deft mix of underground techno and electronica struck a chord with media and music fans alike, and was met with a chorus of approval, resulting in several Album Of The Month reviews and features across a wide range of global media.
Asia, Europe, South America, the US, and the Southern Hemisphere all continents have rocked to Dubfires superlative DJ skills in the past 12 months. But filling the finest international clubs is one thing, keeping a floor packed for over 9 hours takes only the very best (just ask those lucky clubbers who experienced this at Brazils Warung earlier this year). And with barely enough time to rest his headphones in January, Dubfire is off on the road again once more; with an ever-present hunger for touring flowing through his veins, 2008s diary is proving to be the busiest yet.
On the remix front, re-workings of Nitzer Ebb, Robbie Rivera, Nic Fancuilli, and more, have brought him to the forefront of record boxes the world over. Recent remixes for the likes of Steve Hillage and Mirrette Giraudys System 7 project, UNKLE, and Smith & Selway, will no doubt further cement his current status as remixer du jour.
Dubfires change in direction has also spawned new creative partnerships, as well as resurrecting old ones: his reworking of Ritchie Hawtins percussive opus and (beyond) classic 90s track, Spastik (original recorded under Hawtins Plastikman guise) has been released on M-nus, along with a new production entitled Emissions, also featured on the labels recent compilation, Expansion-Contraction.
With the success of original productions, his remixes, and extensive tour dates, one thing is abundantly clear: based on the current state of play, Dubfire is one of 2008s most exciting musical visionaries.

LEE KALT
Dj/Producer LEE KALT's Special K chosen as essential by Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 and song of the year by Erick Morillo in DJ Mag Top 100 poll.
It's May 2001, and the day of Danny Tenaglia's official return to the legendary club Twilo, New York. Amidst all the excitement and celebration, before the night even began, police chained closed the doors of the club and shut it down for good.
What could have ended the night then and there, was just the catalyst that would guide Dj/Producer Lee Kalt's musical career in years to come. In last minute desperation, Lee made a quick call to Danny's manager, and together they transported the last night of Twilo to Lee's loft in Soho. Tenaglia arrived under the cover of night and Lee kicked off the party with his own opening set for a crowd of 500 people among which Danny Howells and Satoshi Tomie were a few of the notables in attendance. While the party that night ended after 27 hours, Lee's career in the music industry was just beginning.
A few weeks later, Lee Kalt 'officially ' introduced himself to the New York City club life as the founding resident of the legendary Sullivan Room. Lee's flawless and pounding sets formed Fridays @ SR into one of New York's most well-respected house music parties, showcasing up and coming Dj's from all over the world including Lee Cabrera, Dirty Vegas, Luiz Diaz, and AstroGlyde.
By the time Lee left his residency at Sullivan Room in 2002, he was already a star in New York City's nightlife, becoming the choice opener and resident DJ for several new nightclubs and lounges in Manhattan including Bed, Cain, Crobar, Centro-fly, Pink Elephant, Le Souk and Sullivan Room as well as the musical host of many well-known parties in the Hamptons, Ibiza, Las Vegas, Miami, San Francisco, reaching as far globally as Asia.
During his travels and residencies, Lee has played with the some of the most talented Djs in the world including Danny Tenaglia, Sasha, Behrouz, James Zabiela, Luke Fair, Arthur Explicit, Sander Klieneberg, Tom Stephan (aka Superchumbo), Cedric Gervais, Dj Rap, Peter Rauhofer, Ivano Bellini, Low End Specialists, Stan Kolev, Mr. C, Jonny Vicious, John Digweed, Timo Mass, and Erick Morillo.
Since his start, Lee's djing style has been a force to be reckoned with. His live sets are cutting edge, picking up where most other DJs have left off. Lee stands out as an artist looking to bring the highest levels of production to his work, crediting Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Loco Dice and Timo Mass, as the main influences for his musical style today. Lee's latest production "Special K" was recently signed by Erick Morillo's label Subliminal Records and promises to be one of biggest records in Ibiza and summer of 2007.
Although Lee has been djing since his first high-school dance, his talents and accomplishments have reached beyond the scope of dance music. Lee Kalt is also a painter, and his pre 9/11 painting of two lightning bolts hitting the twin towers hung in the Norman Rockwell museum, in Stockbridge, MA.
Before finishing high school, Lee had written, produced, and starred in his own off-Broadway musical, called "Inappropriate." The musical ran off-Broadway in New York City for 2 years and was also showcased in Los Angels, where it received rave reviews and the interest of several Hollywood producers for film options.
Between 1997-2000 Lee Kalt attended the TISCH School of Arts, at New York University where he studied Film and Theater.
Before turning his life's ambition toward music, Lee Kalt was a 5 star Chef, running two restaurants as the executive Chef ' Stockbridge Cabaret' and Dinner Theater at The Mansion. As a Chef Lee studied in the US and abroad making Tuscany, Italy his second home for two years, to soak up a wealth of Italian culinary knowledge.
Lee stands out as an artist looking to bring the highest levels of production to his work, crediting Danny Tenaglia, Deep Dish, Loco Dice and Timo Mass, as the main influences for his musical style today. He is the driving force behind LK RECORDS and all of the artists it represents. In the the summer of 2007 Lee signed his soon to be vocal house classic " Special K" feat. Missus M to Erick Morillo's prestigious Subliminal Records. "Special K" proved to be one of the biggest records not only in Ibiza but in 2007- it was "Essential Tune of the Week" on Pete Tong's BBC Radio 1 show The Essential Mix, and recently selected as "Tune of 2007" by Erick Morillo in DJ Mag's Top 100 issue
