We've been making the best guitars and basses for 125 years. From the Hofner Verithin to the iconic Hofner Violin Bass as played by Paul McCartney.
Hofner are based in Hagenau, a village, in Bavaria, Germany and we also have our own workshops in Beijing, China. We still hand build many of our guitar models as well as making Violins, Cellos and Double Basses. The workshops at Hagenau were built in 1964 as a second base to the one that was at Bubenreuth which was closed in 1997. Our workshops in Beijing are now very much part of the company working closely with us in Germany on all aspects of production.
We've a large base of Hofner Artists who use our guitars, from C&W right through to Heavy Rock like Uriah Heap. Our electric guitars were important in fuelling the Beat Boom of the 1950s and 60s when Rock n Roll travelled across from the USA and caught on in a big way in Europe. Thousands of groups picked a Hofner guitar to get started and of course a lucky few of them went on to become world super stars. Hofner Clubs, Verithins, Galaxies and Coloramas were to be found everywhere! Much has changed since those heady days but we continue to supply guitars to those who fancy their chances of becoming the next rock legend as we still produce those guitars, though we've updated them somewhat!
We will be celebrating 125 years in business in 2012. In 1887 Karl Hofner, the company founder, started his own business producing violins following his apprenticeship. There is of course a lot of history over the next 125 years but you'll have to pop over to our website if you want to know more about that.
