My Grandfather was a coal miner in Ethel, WV. My great uncle, Earl Gearhart, died in the McBeth Mine in 1937 in Logan County, WV. Both men fought for the United Mine Workers Union in the mine war of 1921... fourteen years later after the election of FDR was the UMWA recgonized and life changed ...
