T'was when in the fall of 2009, that Dell Purvis of Granbury, Texas, someone whom Dean Strickland had met several years before when he had hitched a ride part of the way to his gig with him in his old Chevy van down Texas Hwy. 377, he said to Dean that the Lord had put it on his heart to give to him that very same van, and gave Dean his keys, and that Dean Strickland ended the hitchhiking musical tour that he had persevered through, that had lasted four years and three months. After which, Dean continued on his musical tour for three more months while sleeping his his newly acquired van, before he settled down in a studio apartment in Bandera, Texas with an ability to make a living for himself as a professional musician. Before all that happened though, Dean took his musical career one ride at a time after attending eight years of music college, and completing after that, with a friend, a twenty thousand mile musical tour around the United States. Dean, through his hard work, talent and admitted "good fortune," from as far as Texas, to Tennessee, and California, safely traversed by hitchhiking back and forth, over and over again, for years via the rides of more than 1,200 generous strangers, picking up fans and bolstering a supportive publicity base as he went along playing his music, and successfully booking himself a schedule of shows, which he always played on time. Strickland has his faith in God, and this country-western music performer hasn't just been following his dreams - he's literally hitchhiked toward them. Strickland worried about the dangers of walking and hitchhiking long distances. He coped by praying. As a real rambling singer, Dean Strickland has taken the road less traveled. While on his hitchhiking journey, Dean completed a disc of original songs that he wrote and recorded on the road called "Hitchhiking Guitarman". There isn't any doubt about where Dean Strickland is coming from on this CD. This is a man who believes in life, his family and his Lord. Strickland's "Hitchhiking Guitarman", on his own Never Die Records label, is a portrait of a man's life - the trials, tribulations, wins and losses that dot the highway of life. A recurring theme in Strickland's songwriting is his enduring Christian faith, and his walk with the Lord Jesus Christ is reflected in most of his songs. Dean Strickland's "Hitchhiking Guitarman" is a country-gospel album with sincerity as its greatest asset. The honest to God truth is that Dean Strickland's "Hitchhiking Guitarman" CD is a product of his faith, determination and answered prayers. Without each of those things the "Hitchhiking Guitarman" CD by Dean Strickland would have never come about. Faith, and determination are what Dean Strickland used, which helped him through years of immensely dangerous hitchhiking from city to city, and across the American countryside, as he sought to grow as a musician, and prayed in Jesus' name that the Lord would guide his feet, send him songs, and keep him safe. In addition to Dean's prayers mentioned previously, Dean prayed that the Lord would make it possible that the songs he had written, during the first two years of his hitchhiking journey, get recorded before he struck out on his planned hitchhiking journey from Texas to Nashville, Tennessee, so he would have a demo CD when he got there, though he did not have the money needed to record his songs, and that prayer of Dean's came to pass by the grace of God and the help of a person who must have been an angel sent from Heaven that Dean met when he traveled by way of hitchhiking through Brownwood, Texas where he had a show to play in September of 2007. Afterward, while hitchhiking to Nashville, Tennessee, with his Heaven sent demo recording, Dean prayed that somehow his demo CD would be made into a retail ready CD, though he did not have the money needed to buy the CDs, and that prayer too came to pass by the grace of God and a person who must have been another angel sent from Heaven that Dean met when he traveled by way of hitchhiking through Nashville, Tennessee where he had his scheduled show to play, and that CD would be called "Hitchhiking Guitarman", and during that hitchhiking journey of Dean's from Texas to Nashville, Tennessee a preacher man claiming to be a prophet with whom Dean hitched a ride prophesied to him that Dean will be influential worldwide.
