Hickory Hammock Baptist Church is in Milton, Florida. Milton is 12 miles east of Pensacola in the Florida Panhandle region. HHBC is located on Hickory Hammock Rd in East Milton.

Thus the church derives its name from the road and the Community in which it is located.

A "hammock" in North Florida vernacular is a low slung area of land in a field or geographical region. Behind the church about 1/2 mile through the Florida swamps there is a "hammock" or "valley" that stretches several miles from east to west. It used to be filled with hickory trees.

Thus, the area became known as the Hickory Hammock area. When the church was built in that community back in the 1920's it was natural to name it the "Hickory Hammock" Baptist Church.

TODAY - HHBC is known throughout the region and in many places throughout the world as a vibrant, Jesus-filled, Spirit-led, mission-minded church. The church is strong and solid. The Sr. Pastor, Carl Gallups has been with the church since 1987.

HHBC operates a Christian School for very poor children in Comas-Lima, Peru, called the Jack Goldfarb Christian School. The Pastor writes a weekly newspaper column - ASK THE PREACHER for the Santa Rosa Press Gazette. He also hosts two weekly Radio Programs on 1330 WEBY AM - a 25,000 watt radio station that reaches much of the Gulf Coast of the Florida Panhandle, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisianna. These shows are also called ASK THE PREACHER.
