Eastern Airlines started this maneuver in the early 80s at Atlanta airport to save on the number of tugs. Later followed by American Airlines and Northwest. Eastern powerbacked 727s, DC-9s; American 727s, MD-80s. Northwest DC-9s, I'm not sure about 727s for them.

Wobbly 757 Landing @ LGA
Expressway Visual into runway 31....Right before touchdown, we encountered some wake turbulence from the plane landing before us. Very late touchdown.
I wonder if the fact the 757 does not have the inboard (tab) aileron (which is actually a high speed aileron) on the wing like the 747, 767, and 777 has anything to do with this exaggerated roll activity. 757 just has ailerons out near the wingtips (traditional low speed ailerons). Spoilers kic...

Wobbly 757 Landing @ LGA
Expressway Visual into runway 31....Right before touchdown, we encountered some wake turbulence from the plane landing before us. Very late touchdown.
Upon further review, looks like pilot induced oscillations (pio) with too much control input on a 757. I've been a passenger and experienced this on a 757 landing in Chicago. It is indeed scary. Look at all the aileron and and more importantly the spoiler movement. Each oscillation gets stron...

Regarding past large aircraft landing at LGA. DC-10s, A300s, L-1011s, and 767s have used the airport in the past. All these are larger than 757s.

Boston-Logan Airport Collision ATC, July 14th, 2011
On July 14th, 2011, two planes collided at Boston-Logan Airport. This is the ATC from that day.
Delta crew seems to say "RJ" with disdain. Seems like he's thinking somebody's always hitting an RJ!

Student pilot first landing - terrible. Watch in HD
12 hours experience, over controlling and a few hundred other errors. CFI had to save me in the flare and take over to land the airplane. Comments?
The takeoff was also scary. Lots of deviation to the right from the runway centerline. Have you soloed yet? Landing-- high on the approach and high descent rate at the end. As they say, keep practicing.

Boeing 767 Amercian Airlines bad or good landing???
Funny touchdown^^
Or what do you think?
Airport Manchester EGCC
With ATC
Have to call it a good landing. He just had to kick some rudder to keep the plane aligned with the runway. It wasn't pretty, however.

Detained for photography in Baltimore
After all is said and done, when speaking of 9/11 photography had nothing to do with the demise of American AL flights 11 and 77, nor United flights 93 and 175. A little bit of common sense goes a long way.

Detained for photography in Baltimore - Part two

Dan-Air London BAC One Eleven Take-off (wing view)
Departure from London Gatwick 1992
@greengoblin200 The 111 did not have great short field takeoff performance at high gross weight. Additionally no leading edge slats for extra lift and lower takeoff speeds hence the long takeoff roll. In this video perhaps it was a high temperature and I bet also calm wind. These also go again...

Having watched MD-80 rotations for about 27 years now, this is definitely not fake. I hope the incident was reported by the flight crew. I don't know how they couldn't have noticed. Wherever this MD-80 is flying today, if it is at all, this could still be an issue if the incident was never pro...

I'm wondering whether those movements were commanded or uncommanded. If uncommanded, that could have been a precursor to an aerodynamic stall. It looks pretty scary. I don't think a commercial pilot would intentially rock the wings with such a heavy load at such a low altitude on takeoff. Def...

As a witness to first generation jetliner ops of the 60s, Pratt & Whitney turbojets and turbofans on 707s, DC-8s all smoked. When first delivered on 727s, DC-9s, and 737s, the P&W JT8D series also smoked--which was later reduced with a so called burner can modification to the engines. All in al...

The really sad part about this is that just is about the only way you can die on an amphibious seaplane. If you had just an engine failure, you could land at an airport or on the water. But if you have a catastrophic structural failure like this one, there's not much chance.

Beautiful plane, unfortunately probably a dinosaur before it ever gets engrained in any meaningful service. The world is not into (as the old timers used to say) 4-engine "jobs" anymore. Because of its stretch, even though it's big, it looks more like a "low-rider" on the ground.

@jonny2k100 FYI most of the plane is not painted. The fuselage, wings, and most of the plane are polished aluminum (natural metal finish). Some parts (such as composite constructed components like the tail) are painted grey. This has been an AA tradition for many years.
