However i don't totally disagree with Stein's point of view. As A fan of the Azzurri for many years I often found it excruciating to pull for them because of their reluctance to go for the kill in big games and just try to hang on to slim leads despite possessing outstanding attacking talent., 1982 was an exception. i also don't like what Euro club football has become with the Champions League just being a showcase for the very wealthy clubs. i preferred the old Champions Cup, Cup Winner's Cup, and UEFA Cups which often featured smaller clubs, like for example Aberdeen in 1984, a chance at European glory.

That might be so, but i know for a fact that Stein said italian football would be the ruination of soccer before WC 1982. By the way i saw Celtic play Sporting Lisbon at Fenway Park last summer. Look for more soccer in Boston now that the RED SOX own Liverpool.

You don't like me because i'm American but I have some connections to the beautiful game, My long gone father played in Serie A during the 40's and I have seen big games during the WC here in the U.S in 1994. I also saw Liverpool play at Anfield in 1981, with Dalglish, souness, Neil, ect. when they were 4 times Euro champ. I have read many books, periodicals on soccer,( WS magazine, france Football, La Gazetta dello Sport,Brian Glanville, ect.), over the past 35 years, so my knowledge of football is pretty good. I have opinions which should not be confused with arrogance.
