you're more likely to tear your cap that way...and it works well only with latex and some "sticky" silicone caps. with aqua v's the method doesnt work at all, you should in fact put your hand into each side of the cap to open the cap up and put it down on your head.

try not to pull yourself out of the water too much, remember the more vertical you are in the water the more drag your body creates :P

also, lengthen your stroke! never bend your arm on the recovery (when your arms go forward over the water)
