Q&A:
Why did you choose to start writing the book?
Well, it was first going to be a short children's book for this contest we were introduced to in language arts, but somehow we ended up deciding how much we hated deadlines and we started doing our own thing. I think the idea kind of grew on us gradually, but we managed to make something of our imaginations and put it on paper...well, not in the literal sense.
What made you want to write about faeries?
We were popping ideas out at each other for a short children's book for that contest...and I (Jackie) randomly just thought about Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. Brooke and Anna liked it, surprisingly. After we came up with faeries, we kind of just bounced some ideas off each other and we got to where we are now. I've always thought fairies were unique, but 'faery' just looked cooler xP
What inspired the book?
Many, MANY things. For me, the happy moments were inspired by my random moments when I'd blast music in my room and dance around, but then decide to sit down and force myself to write (mostly because the music was giving me an indescribable high, but also because I definitely can't dance & I look ridiculous when I even attempt at it.) The more depressing parts were usually inspired by my more gloomy days usually in sitting in spanish, random pieces of literature sprouting in my head. Also, I think we were a little irritable with adults writing teen books. Sure, they do a great job remembering what it was like, but I've always wanted to read a book like was teenage-esque but still from the viewpoint of a modern teenager.
What time of the day did you do most of your writing?
There wasn't any specific time. It was just when I was feeling a little dramatic...which is like all the time nowadays. As a final answer, since I'm at school for eight hours out of my day, I would say around late afternoon, close to dinnertime.
Are any of the characters modeled after people in real life?
Personally, I think Iris has qualities of all three of us. I'm not sure if the other characters are necessarily modeled after people we know, but I know we know people who are like them (if that makes sense).
How'd you come up with the names?
Simple: BABY NAMES WEBSITES!!
Haha sadly, it's true.
All the faeries have flower names, and the non-faery people have names that are just names we liked.
Is this book all your life is about?
Ha! Good one. I mean, this book means a lot to us, but we still have school, our friends, our life. We're your average teens. You know, I hate having to use the word 'teen' in like every sentence...but it's true. But yes, we do have lives. Brooke is really into piano, composing, and singing. Anna likes swimming, being artistic, sometimes singing, and surfing Youtube. I'm--well, I'm not exactly sure. I enjoy listening to music, playing violin, drawing, texting (I'm a BIG texter lol), and shopping. Things we all have in common: writing, reading, and we all like mushrooms! Yeah, it's weird, but hey, that's just us. Trying out dresses is pretty fun, too.
When are you aiming to finish this book?
We thought maybe by the end of the '09 summer. That's what we're aiming for at least. Then again, we're not too gleeful with deadlines, nor are we good at keeping to them.
What are your favorite books, and was this book anchored off another book?
That's a hard one. The ones that really stick out in my mind are Twilight and Nineteen Minutes. There are loads of other favorites, but those just pop out at me because I just finished watching Twilight on DVD for like the fiftieth time, and I'm currently reading Nineteen Minutes. I hope the ending is good enough for it to remain one of my favorite books lol. Fearless isn't anchored off any other book, though. We tried to steer clear of it being similar to any book we've read.
