Gene and Gayla Mills are a folk and country singer/songwriter duo. Gene has been called one of the most talented songwriters in Virginia and has won numerous songwriting awards. His deep, smooth voice and impressive lead guitar are accompanied by Gayla's harmonies and bass; they are the perfect vehicle for songs ranging from clever to poignant.

Genes songs are complex and rich, telling stories and creating characters that are concrete and memorable. From stories about coal mining or farming to lost loves or lessons from war, the duo play songs that move audiences. These songs, which are available on the Waiting for Rain CD, include the upbeat, the comic, and the tragic; they have been getting extensive radio airplay, particularly in Virginia.

In addition to playing bass and singing harmony, Gayla is the marketing and graphics mastermind behind Heart Pine Music Publishing. She makes sure the trains run on time and that Gene is well supplied with napkins.

In addition to originals, the duo play covers that range from old country songs to an eclectic mix of Beatles, Johnny Cash, British folk songs, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Si Kahn, Flatt and Scruggs, and Townes Van Zandt.
