The artist Haydn Dickenson was born in Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom where he still lives and works, dividing his time between his home there and a second one in the Languedoc, Southern France.

The major Russian Artist Dasha Balashova has written about Haydn's artwork: "The Art of Haydn Dickenson is like a true symphony, whose depth in all its diverse movements, inner 'nerve', expressive energy, live creative impulse, artistic passion and constant search take us beyond reality into spheres of the infinite. These are works that resonate with the heartbeat of life."

Haydn's work ranges from rapid nude sketches in graphite, ink and watercolour, through abstracted nude work in oils and acrylic, to more overtly free pieces in which collage, acrylics and oils collaborate in a suggestive dance of colour, texture and form; sometimes urgent and vital, sometimes calm and meditative.

Haydn also enjoyed, formerly, a successful career as a concert pianist. He has now abandoned this path; despite highly fruitful collaborations with several important living composers, he began to feel constrained by the sometimes unyielding world of classical music performance. Thus Haydn arrived at a gradual though inevitable shift, towards his other, long-suppressed love, the Visual Arts. Haydn, much influenced by the great pianists of the so-called 'Golden Age', has frequently remarked that, at the piano, he was somehow spinning and moulding colour and tone through sound. In a similar way, he recognises parallels with Music in the flowing lines and energy of pencil, brush and paint, believing that all artistic expression pours from the same well-spring of creativity.

The beautiful Music Videos on this page, all made by a former colleague to whom huge thanks are due, feature studio and concert performances by Haydn towards the end of his concert career, from 2006-2008. Haydn continues to teach Piano in the UK, in which profession he is much sought-after. He feels his activity in this field is enriched by his work as an artist, rather than compromised by ceasing to perform In Concert.

Haydn's paintings and drawings feature in private collections in the UK, France, the USA, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Afghanistan and Jordan. He has exhibited widely in Hertfordshire, recently at the Maltings Theatre in St Albans, the Copper Beech Gallery, Hitchin, and Beaumont Hall Studios, Redbourn. 2010 also saw shows in Bedford, Stevenage Aylesbury and Harlow. In August 2009 Haydn exhibited in Lodeve, Southern France; two further exhibitions are planned in France for 2011, alongside numerous shows in the UK.
