You can shoot it at the range a lot if you use reloaded .38 specials instead of factory+P's. Pretty cheap fun. Because it is a revolver you can use pretty much any kind of ammo. Even very lightly loaded target wad cutters. I love revolvers. So easy to use, trouble free and easy to clean.

I wouldn't rely on a .22 caliber anything for self defense primarily because rim fire ammo is notoriously unreliable. IMO.
