Well German commanders never backed down when an opportunity like Falaise was presented for them. The Western Allies were very cautious, it's a fact. They were always worried about flank exposure.

Wish I could agree but I'm a firm believer in Hemingway's quote about war. There was so many pointless fights all throughout WW2 which men died like absolute pawns and for no good strategic reason in places like the Hurtgen Forest and Metz.

I'm aware that there was a fair share of Nazi fanatics but for the most part they were a huge annoyance to the ordinary front line soldiers. There was a sizable internal strafe in the German army between party and non-party members.

I didn't say the British have not lost tons of men in the past, because they have. I was talking strictly about WW1 and U.S. military history. 1918 was not the bloodiest year ever. 1944 was.

People should not blame the troops in the field out west for these actions. Orders came down all the way from president Grant and the war department. You don't have much of a choice if you are a soldier. I mean look how Custer threatened Benteen for insubordination in this part.
