only 12,000 fans! Wow, even though the Mets were terrible I can't recall such a small opening day crowd. They had a long way to go! BTW the 1980 Mets only hit 61 home runs as a team, tying Roger Maris!

Interesting personnel for the Rangers. Syl Apps later traded to Pittsburgh for Glen Sather ( a bad trade) and Don Luce who would later star for the Sabres.

The blackout rule was lifted at the start of the season by Congress. They wanted to see Redskin home games. Pete Rozelle was pissed and as revenge he took away doubleheaders for New York if a home game was televised (and they all were). If both teams played at 1 then no 4:00 game in New York.

I.m glad you included a segment with Dobyns signtature line (later taken, borrowed or stolen by Linda Ellerbee), "And so it goes". He was a brilliant journalist and as usual underappreciated. You get a sample of his wit here but he was all substance too. Big mistake moving "weekend" from Satur...

Definitely a bigger budget for this one. The set is as we remember it and it adds to the plot. The Bunker house looks real and what made the show great was that all the characters were real. You can see how much better Rob Reiner, Sally Struthers and Mike Evans were compared to the other pilo...

ABC really missed the boat by passing on the show not once but twice. Still a great script and nice to see the original vision. It is much better with Rob Reiner, Sally Struthers and Mike Evans. The son-in-law is much more confrontational in this one.

It's worse now, Republicans have passed voter id laws in many states requiring government issues id to be able to vote. The corrupt Supreme Court conservatives gave it their blessing despite not one documented case of voter fraud. This is so anti-democratic it's sickening. The 2012 election wi...
A prominent defensive player for the Jets that day was Shaun Ellis. Look where he ended up, the Patriots! They lost a lot of good character guys. Let's hope Tannenbaum gets some more toughness on defense and a better offensive line.
