SS stands for "Super Sport" and is a performance option package offered by Chevrolet since the 60s. typically vehicles with the ss package would have stripes/badges, better tires, springs, upgraded engines, and drive-train components.

i recently purchased a 88 k1500. about a month later i got a letter from the manufacturer including current recall notices and a selection of Metallica cd's. i guess if you own a full size 4x4 pickup truck you're required by law to listen to Metallica in it.
