We jazzers in hear that chord you mentioned not only as F#-7b5, but also can be heard as D dominant 9 with the root cancelled out. :) Play the same cadence but put a low D on the first chord and you've got a nice jazz cadence. Hahaha.

If the harmonies were spot-on perfect, the song would not grab you by the throat the way it does. FF were obviously smart enough to know that, and know the feel was more important than the level of perfection. It's no different than getting choked up in the middle of a passionat...

She's a terrible singer and out of control. And yet that's the whole point of the scene and the movie. Her sister has to join in just to rescue her from falling apart onstage, just like everyone has to in her everyday life. She's a walking open wound, a bottomless pit of need who sucks the life o...

Cello 1, you are really loose and free with that second theme melody at 2:20. Heard this piece a thousand times and you really make that melody sing like I never heard it before.

Well done! I am so tired of hearing this piece played as a flashy showpiece at 100mph. It's a gigue, meant to be danced, and not raced through; pure clavichord music. Check out Colin Tilney's performance on Hyperion; he plays it the same tempo as you.

It's interesting to hear how differently this seemingly simple piece is played just by the performances posted at this website.
I like how you make the canons at 0'38" kind of "swing", while others I've heard play it like some sedate baroque counterpoint; more so you play the entire piece with a...

There was no rigging at all - it's terrible to suggest otherwise. Porter said he had rehearsed defending that exact play from viewing tapes for the week before the game, over and over. Porter read the play, known as Manning's favorite throw, and reacted perfectly. Manning's timing was off; he thr...

Just a terrific moment. Porter is now Louisiana royalty for life. I still get choked up watching this and every other home reaction video of this play.
@maestrojimbo You're completely missing what de Leeuw is doing in the way he plays Satie. His interpretations are unique; to my ears he seems to play them like the "wallpaper music" they were intended to be. You can listen or walk away and come back - you can get lost in it. It's a very modernist...
