I find it amazing to read about the seamanship and bravery of the Commander, Skipper and 50 others who sailed in a longboat from the wreck to Java with minimal food and water. Not mentioned in this video though.

It was a time of amazing sacrifice of service by these men (and women) who saw their duty and did it. How many of us could say the say the same thing about our generation? My grandfather served as pilot with 467 sqn RAAF and experienced life as a prisoner of war. We owe their memory so much.

Hi, thanks for the tribute video. My grandfather was a 467sqn pilot - Sgt Binnie, DFM, and flew out of Bottesford. He was shot down 13/7/43 and a POW until '45. Only 3 out of his crew of 7 survived.

Very good archival video. My grandfather was pilot on Lancaster PO-M, 467 Sqn RAAF. Shot down 21 June 1943, POW Stalag Luft 3, 6. Also made it back to OZ to raise a family. What a generation it was to have served like this!

@LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH Liked your comment re navs being the brains. My grandfather was pilot in 467 RAAF lancs at Bottesford '42-43. He always said his maths got him by, but his nav was a rock for the crew. Unfortunately his nav was KIA on the final trip in july 43. Respect to all of that generation.
