About Middle Northwich Sickle
Sickle was built in 1936 by W.J. Yarwood and Sons of Northwich as one of eight steel boats with vee bottoms and rounded bilges which made them unpopular with boatmen. Therefore in 1942 the Ministry Of War Transport shortened four of them to 40ft icebreakers. Sickle then continued to work for British Waterways until around 2000 when she was condemned. She was then placed in Sawley Marina Car Park by BW with the intention of digging her into the ground and using her as a flower pot. Luckily, me managed to save Sickle in 2002 and begun restoring her. She was relaunched into the Erewash Canal on the 26th Jan 2008
