The Department of Communication at Georgia State University is dedicated to quality educational programs at the graduate and undergraduate level that inspire individuals to become socially responsible citizens who understand communication theory and deploy communication skills to improve the human condition. Whether students study the relationship between journalism and democratic citizenship, the ethical problems associated with the practices of public relations, or communication with the young and elderly at the undergraduate level, social documentary production, political speech writing, or gender and violence at the masters level, or national identity construction, critical media theory, or international media at the doctoral level, our faculty are dedicated to teaching students about the crucial role communication processes play in the quality of human life.To that end, the Department of Communications offers a Ph.D. in Communication Studies with emphases in Public Communication and Moving Image Studies; MA degrees in Communication with emphases in Film/Video & Digital Imaging, Mass Communication, and Human Communication & Social Influence; and undergraduate degrees in Communication with majors in Film & Video, Journalism, and Speech. Areas of concentration in Journalism are Print Journalism, Public Relations, and Telecommunications, and areas of concentration in Speech are Public & Political Communication and Communication across the Lifespan.
