My name is Gary and I'm volunteer at the Grissom. You'll likely find me ready to help if you pick our airport to take a pitstop. Upon starting flying lessons in 2009 I got immersed in aviation by hanging out at the airport and helping out where I could. In the two years I've been volunteering I've got to meet some really nice people and some not so nice people. But there's no place I'd rather be then at the airport on a busy day.

Virgil I. Grissom Municipal Airport (IATA: BFR, ICAO: KBFR, FAA LID: BFR) is a public use airport located three nautical miles (6 km) southeast of the central business district of Bedford, a city in Lawrence County, Indiana, United States.[1]
The airport is named in honor of Virgil I. Grissom (1926-1967), an Indiana native and U.S. Air Force pilot who was one of the original NASA Project Mercury astronauts.

Lawrence County Indiana has produce three NASA astronauts; Gus Grissom of course and also Kenneth Bowersox (http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios/htmlbios/bowersox.html) and Charlie Walker (http://www.jsc.nasa.gov/Bios/PS/walker.html).

KBFR is a great airport to wait for the weather, refuel, sit and drink some coffee, or use the courtesy van to go eat at one of our many independently owned restaurants.
