This was Ten Plus' second attempt in the Sun Alliance Hurdle. In 1985 he finished 5th at 66/1. When he was injured in the Gold Cup, I recall Fulke Walwyn in tears.

The Sun Alliance Chase had 30 runners and 9 finishers. All horses were fine. It was the last year with a 30 runner limit for Novices...

@abrahamcat probably because he was a 33/1 winner few had. The 66, 86 and 89 gold cups I remember for the crowd and the 77 national. When popular horses win the crowd goes bananas.

statiscally, 2001 and 1998 were tougher races based on time alone.

@Annon1100 funnily enough, the day you replied the BHA were announcing further changes to the aintree fences to reduce deaths by encouraging them to go faster. These people are dead from the neck up. More horses have died in the Grand National since the 1990 modifications than in the 21 years pre...

rewilding was a very good improving horse. sad to see in any race.

interesting to see no helmets for some players even in 1993. I thought helmetless players were restricted to a few of the very top players back then. Even Ambrose was batting without a helmet.

my tip when you do jump squats is make sure you have space when you move sideways on balance.

when he comes against the older horses it wont be so easy. My concern was the tactics here. Sure he won but how much did that take out of him? We will soon find out. Dancing Brave, Shergar and Dayjur are 3 horses I can think of in last 30 years that oozed class.
