cops beating people up at occupy wall street
October 5th, around 8:45 PM. Cops beating up and pepper spraying people at the occupy wall street protest. THIS IS WHAT A POLICE STATE LOOKS LIKE.

Holy Shit! This is snowballing. The NYC cops with their reaction might as well be challenging every Democrat and Independent in the country -- and every anti-government militia member, every anarchist, etc....... No *real* people power movement will be tolerated by the American ruling class. They...

GC4 I think, though, it is actually *plausibility* that is the key, not *possibility*.
If I flip a coin and hold it hidden, is it possible that it is heads? I would say we don't know if it is possible. The answer has already been determined. It is impossible that the bottom side is up at that m...

GC3 Belief as in momentary enthusiasm for a n idea or a way of seeing, even one that seems quite suspect. As long as you can imagine it, then you should try it.
I think there is also a subversion of literalism in this approach to belief. You don't have to permanently, literally believe the Garde...

GC2 The possibilian will try out new beliefs like a suit, while the new atheist maintains uniforms are unneeded. But "belief" is fundamentally morphed in this change. No longer is belief something you hold long-lasting loyalty to. It can no longer keep other plausibilities away. Changing the meta...

GC1The criticism here of Eagleman seems to largely be that he is a new atheist as well . . . he just doesn't realize it. It seems to me, though, Eagleman is transcending a common limitation shared by most. That is the belief that we must have *a* belief. Not just on gods, but on everything. The n...

Toshiba Thrive Review
Official review of the new Toshiba Thrive Tablet. Great tablet, best android if not best tablet on market.
The thrive is very nice looking. It is a little thick and heavy. There is a great selection of accessories from Toshiba. The one big feature not present is the N-trig digitizer for a stylus. The Lenovo Thinkpad seems to be the best alternative on the way.

Stephen Cox on Libertarian Literature and Prisons as Failed Planned Societies
Stephen Cox sat down with Reason.tv to talk about libertarian literature and why prisons are the best example of a failure in planning societies.
...
The prison analogy is a good one, but there is something wrong with the traffic analogy: cars are all basically equal -- all capable of the same basic speeds and abilities to occupy its spot on the road. The members of society are not so basically equal. The traffic analogy must fail on this acco...

I'd say we need a law recognizing our freedom to film anything in the public sphere, but we already have that with the First Amendment, don't we? There are no Constitutional provisions allowing the control of "witnessing". So we don't need a new law. We need the courts to strike down whatever law...
