Founded in 1978 by Artistic Director Nobuko Miyamoto, Great Leap is a non-profit performing arts organization that aims to deepen relations between diverse peoples. In 2005 Great Leap introduced COLLABORATORY, a free mentorship residency program to nurture cross-cultural inter-community artistic collaboration and develop community leadership. Previous rounds of COLLABORATORY have focused on themes such as immigration, democracy, and care for the environment.

Thank you so much for coming to Hilo. You are truly inspirational and your messages will be remembered and passed on within our community for a long time. We're hoping that with Jan Higashi's formidible help, Mayor Kenoi's invitation to you to come back and teach our "keiki" (children) will come to fruition sometime soon. I'd love to see you and your Great Leap members perform at our UH Hilo performing arts theatre too. Jan can also help to arrange that too, I'm sure. XOXO and Aloha! Sharyn
