This quilt exhibit at the McHenry County Historical Museum is part of the Northern Illinois Quilt Fest (NIQF). NIQF is a quilt focused event spanning the top 6 counties of IL during the months of July, August & September 2011. Quilt exhibits, events, programs, meet the artist teas, shop hops and more are happening at museums, galleries, auditoriums, libraries, churches and quilt shops. Barn quilts and quilt gardens were created along with a map for McHenry County. "Porch" quilts (smaller quits on boards) were made and auctioned off in several counties. To find out more go to www.NorthernIllinoisQuiltFest.com or look us up on Facebook.

On November 30, 2010 the Union Fire Dept. had the 1867 limestone building so they could put in a septic field for their adjacent fireshouse. This building was a Masonic Hall, the Union Village Hall & finally the Union Firehouse. It was one of the last 4 limestone buildings in McHenry County built from limestone quarried in McHenry County.

On June 19, 2010, the McHenry County Historical Museum began the process of moving an 1870's Italianate Bay window from a house in Richmond owned by MCCD. With help from Carpenters Local 2087, Kujo, Inc. in Johnsburg, IL , Dave Wilcox and crew from Wilcox Tool & Engineering, Union, IL, Bill Dysart, Gail Brown & Bob Lee, we were able to move the window into the McHenry County Historical Museum & preserve this wonderful architectural element. The next step is restoration of the window.
