About this user

I am called Prf. Índio Branco. The name comes from my being raised according to NA traditions by my father, while both he and my mother are most probably of heavy English bloodlines.

I originally learned Capoeira from Markão Verna in Portland OR, who learned originally from M. Almiro, who is one of the sons of M. Bimba. I have traveled extensivily throughout São Paulo state, always training Capoeira with whomever is closest. Styles I have trained while traveling include: Ouro Branco(1yr)-M. Celso (Mogi Mirim), Senzala(2yrs)-M. Israel (Mogi Guaçu), Cordão de Ouro(1yr)-M. Suassuna (São Paulo), Cruzeiro do Sul(1yr)-M. Souza (Porto Ferreira). Most recently, I have been following Pastinha's line.

I studied in the Dept. of Philosophy at the University of São Paulo, between 2000-03.

I have been teaching Capoeira to financially and emotionally challenged children (k-12) since Sept. of 1996. I currently work with residents and neighbors of the squatter community known as Gelo on the outskirts of São Paulo Metropolis where crime, violence and extreme poverty are commonplace.
