Gordon H. Brooks love of music began as a child when he and his family would come together to watch Jackie Gleason and Ted Mack. At five years old, Gordon got a small drumset and would try to emulate drummers he had seen on TV. One of his earliest memories was of seeing a drum solo by Gene Krupa on TV. Gordon began playing saxophone at age 11, and it sparked a passion that would last a lifetime. Gordon played throughout middle school and advanced his skills further at Greenfield-Central High School.
After high school, Gordon went to Ball State University to study saxophone under the legendary Dr. Cecil Leeson. He also studied voice under George Newman and Robert Rocky Rockabrand. Gordon was also a member of the University Singers and the Ball State Jazz Band, directed by Larry McWilliams. A notable experience for Gordon while at Ball State was meeting the legendary jazz great, Duke Ellington. Gordon then went to play the Texas music circuit. After a stint in Texas, Gordon enlisted in the U.S. Army and joined the 74th Army Band. During his time in the Army band, he studied music at the Naval School of Music. Gordon finished his degree in musical theatre at Baldwin Wallace College after his service in the Army ended.
Upon graduating from Baldwin-Wallace, Gordon set out on the road. Gordon played, sang and acted throughout the Midwest and East Coast earning his nickname: the Roadmaster. While pursuing his dream of making a living as a musician, he shared the stage and studio with some well known East Coast artists. Gordon returned home to Indiana after years on the road and continues to play and perform throughout central Indiana.
