Goose August 2007 - typical trip to the park goosedog1 - 1,151 views - 1 year ago
**Sad Update: We had to euthanize Goose in September 2008. Until the very end, we were able to conquer his relapses and restore quality of life. Eventually, he suffered a relapse we could not beat and it was clearly his time. We sincerely appreciate the outpouring of support we have received. We will keep the videos of him on YouTube so we may continue to assist the owners of auto-immune Weims who view them and contact us.**

Goose in August 2007. Still taking 7.5 mg of Prednisone daily (started at 40 mg daily in December 2006).

This video summarizes our daily trip to the park. He likes to run, loves to mark stuff.

Goose is the healthiest he has ever been in his entire life. We have been lowering the Prednisone aggressively, and it seems like the majority of his recent symptoms were directly caused by the Pred. This video was taken a few weeks ago, and he is even better now. More to come soon!

Still no relapses since beginning steroids in Dec. 2006, but he is still far from completely healthy. He still has low energy and seems sad. If you turn up the volume, I think you can barely hear the sound he makes when laying down.

P.S. There was a ball behind the couch when he tucked in there on his way over to me, but he couldn't reach it.

Goose after 3.5 weeks of Steroids. We started at 40 mg daily (divided in 2 doses), then weaned to about 22 mg daily by 1/04. On 1/05, his CBC revealed that his WBC was 17 (normal range 7-16), so we jumped back to the immunosuppressive dose of 30 mg daily. We will check his blood again next week to see if we can resume weaning.

About Me: Goose was born in April of 2006. By December 2006, he had suffered several short episodes of severe illness. We realized that Goose had an auto-immune disease and needed Prednisone medication. The Prednisone saved him from his disease and allowed him to live 2.5 years of a generally happy life. Unfortunately, in September 2008, his condition declined to a point at which we were forced to euthanize him.

The majority of Goose's life, he seemed just like a healthy little Weimaraner, complete with all of the rotten Weimaraner behavioral tendencies. He was born with a difficult disease that was not understood by vets and could not be overcome.

Thank you for everyone's support and comments over the past couple of years. I am going to keep his videos up, in case they can help others or can be discovered by a vet who wants to figure out this disease.

Hi i saw ur video of goose and was going to say it sounds like an autoimmune disease. One of our slovaks had something that looks very similar but you will be happy to know she is now 2 and a half and hasn't had a relapse in over a year. She isn't on any mediation now either.
Hope goose gets well.

Good luck with your gorgeous Weimaraner, Goose!

We have 4 Weimaraners of which one had a bone disorder. Very rare and was told it would subside at 1 year of age. It did, and the two videos or ours with her towels are proof of that. The year was very tough but she so wanted to be a companion of ours. Weimaraners are absolutely the most unique mannered dogs. We hope your Goose's health stays to the good side as she looks to be a very sweet dog. Thank you for taking the time to care for her and not just 'Dumping' like many other's would have.

We love weimies and I was so impressed what Goose could do as a puppy! We lost our first weim. to Addison's disease and it was such a hard loss. I am so glad to hear that you caught Goose's flare ups soon enough! He seems like an amazing dog! Best of luck with him!!! You seem like a wonderful owner!

My wei had a very similar illness not long ago that lasted about 3 days. He was stiff and sore all over with a high temperature. The vet didn't know what was wrong and gave us antibiotics. It was strange. He looked just like your sick goose.
