Rachel says: art gives voice to ideas that are otherwise inexpressiblemany times in life what ive witnessed and experienced has just about broken my heart. ive had to remember time and again how to mend and make my heart whole again, how to wake up in the morning happy and able to embrace life, how to find center and learn to walk in balance again after many a shock or blow. art gives me a way to be actively, dynamically, constructively peaceful again if i didnt have that???
it gives me hope that there are so many tremendous ideas out there, so many peaceful solutions. im convinced no one thing is *the only* solution but all of our best ideas put together
the lyrics i wrote for this project talk about a few of the ideas around that ring beautiful and true to me - the wisdom, love, and patience that so many american indigenous elders demonstrate, the ageless human practice of earth stewardship and of sustaining a loving respect for everything in nature, the sense of everything being sacred and interrelated, the urgency, now more than ever of believing in the dream of peace, in the cessation of war and in owning up to our wrongdoing against the planet and one another in good conscience as a nation, lets see what else,
the abolishment of laws that only serve to oppress us, the pride of our forefathers in a peaceful agrarian vision of this land, in the american spirit of ingenuity, in the multifaceted promise of hemp as an ecologically sound industry to supplant so many toxic ones, and as a merciful medicine, the importance of hanging in there and not giving up your principles.
concha, my friend in madrid- what can i say about beautiful concha!? i feel as if ive known her all my life. although weve yet to meet in person, i feel that we are soul-sisters! like deathinking, she is a consumate visual artist, a genius editor. i love the quality of light in her videos. it illumines the careworn faces of the old, the beautiful clear eyed faces of children, the smiles of parents and friends, the vivid trees, flowers and places concha loves, the marvelous spanish cityscapes and landscapes that concha brings us to in celebration of all that is best about being alive on this planet.
i really wanted concha to help me make something better than my low lit awkward first recording, to visually bring her loving, celebratory spirit and light to my lyrics. she kindly complied, losing sleep, catching cold, my true, peaceful revolutionary friend! the result is totally wonderful.
i want to mention and thank my partner of fourteen years, fellow medicinesocks channeler Norman B, who is my angel, my muse, and most ardent collaborator. norm, thank you for believing in peace and in me. none of this would have happened without you. thank you for giving me an artists life!
Norman has been at work on a monster of a project. it is almost complete and about to go to press as i write this! seven broadside pamphlets will unfold the story of global warming in poetry and science, laid out so we can all understand what has happened and what we now (right away!) can do about it. inspired by this peace project norman has opened a new channel, GL0Warm to showcase the project. i hope youll all check in, soon and often. there is a peaceful solution! we can stop the pollution!
Concha says, Looking for peace firstly in our mind and then forward it to people, that makes art a beautiful tool to spread peace and love. but its also art for feeding our souls and sharing our feelings. Nature is a gift we should care about and in our own way, respect it and love it, nature is feelings, nature is peace, nature is needed, we forgot that we are nature.
