Probably although I'm pretty cynical about politicos in general,
I just know that I can't vote for McCain. |

Well it's Avatar the comicbook company actually,
It's a really bizzare little company to say the least but it's put out one or two interesting titles, They've done some interesting comic adaptations of Alan Moore's literary works like 'The Hypothetical Lizard' and writers like Ellis and Garth Ennis have done some original comic material for them, Avatar's probably most well known for alot of T&A 'bad girl' comics like Lady Death and others. |

Probably Planetary and Transmetropolitan are Ellis's most famous comics although he also did a memorable run on Hellblazer and is still active in writing comics mainly for Marvel these days plus some weirdassed material for Avatar.

I'll be sure to check those books out,
Transmetropolitan's main character Spider Jerusalem was inspired by Thompson, Spider is a gonzo journalist in a futuristic cyberpunk setting who'll go to just about any length to get a story, The whole storyline takes a pretty satirical view of politics and journalism and it has an edge to it, But if you're really into Hunter S Thompson you might take a look some of the tpb reprints of the whole story, You'll never guess who Spider Jerusalem is modeled after at the very beginning when Transmetropolitan starts out LOL, I won't spoil it for you. |

Sorry for the delay to your Hunter S Thompson question,
No I haven't read his work yet although I've been meaning to with the political convention season coming up 'Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas' is something I really need to check out, I'm still trying to reread Burroughs's 'Naked Lunch' which is a mindbender. I know that Warren Ellis's comic Transmetropolitan was somewhat influenced by Thompson and his work. |

Well I'm not sure if the 1970s were a Golden Age of Comics or not,
It was an interesting era for them though, Although when I was a kid back then I probably picked up more crappy comics than good ones, Casper, Spooky, Richie Rich, Way too many Harvey books plus I went after Herb Trimpe Incredible Hulks which I liked back then but just can't stand to look at these days. I really hated the fact that I missed some nice material when it first came out back then like the Denny O'Neil/Neal Adams Batman stories and Kirby's Fourth World Saga. Some of the stuff from that era was somewhat memorable to a kid back then like Superman Vs Spiderman or silly like Superman Vs Muhammed Ali. (yes that was an actual comic back then) |

A long time, Let's just say I was a kid in a barbershop when the first issue of Berni Wrightson's Swamp Thing came out back in 1972, It was the first comicbook that I can really remember reading as a kid although I might also have read some Carl Barks Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge comics at that age, Actually the first tpb of Denis The Menace A Pocket Full Of Fun may have been my very first comic from 1969.
Swamp Thing and some of the DC horror comics from the 1970s were ones I remember House Of Mystery, House Of Secrets, The Witchinghour, plus Warren comic magazines like Creepy, Errie, Vampirella, (shrug) I was hardcore into some of those 1970s horror and science fiction comics, I also was into some 1970s superhero books Superman Batman The Hulk etc, It's a long list. |

Yeah the coloring job that was done on the recent rerelease of Watchmen for instance is far better than what we got in the 1980s tpb which was so bright and colorful it seemed almost garish, The Absolute Watchmen collection which came out a couple of years ago was with Dave Gibbons's supervision done in almost a film noir tone of color which really added to the atmosphere.
Same with Brian Bolland's recoloring of The Killing Joke touches like the black and white origin story and even the basic skin tones in that book are radically different than what we got back in 1988 when that book first came out. |
